Tech Task #6

Toontastic is a really cool app you can download on your classroom tablets for your kiddos! I used it in my last placement in a grade 3/4 as one of the daily 5 ELA stations. This app is tailored more towards early years students, but could for sure be used as a fun activity for the middle years.

So, what is it exactly?

You create a setting, characters - even with your own face as a character! and create a story to share with your classmates. It has the options to scaffold the storytelling such as beginning, middle, and end, which really helps the younger ones keep track of their story. You can make up a story on the fly or write down some points of your story so that it is a little more scripted. You can do it with partners or how ever many characters you have in your story.

It is a great way to engage students in digital storytelling. I could compile a list of curriculum outcomes you could hit with this app, but there are so many ways you could tie this in, if you get creative.

This is the website you can take a more in depth look at it and then download the app on your phone or tablet https://toontastic.withgoogle.com/

I had my son try out the app for the first time and create a short story to share with you! He navigated it easy without my assistance, so the app is super easy to use. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as he did creating it... He whipped it up in the ten minute drive home from school one day.
