Tech Task #2

Hello! Let’s talk about something we don’t often think about- our digital identity and the online footprints that trail behind us…forever. The digital identity that we create of ourselves can impact us in a positive or negative way… well I suppose there can be a happy medium, which is where most of us are. After a little introspection of my own digital footprint I found that my online services are pretty basic, but there was still a trail left behind. Here is a picture of only some of the places that I have accounts on or use on a regular basis: As for a Google search, there were few things that popped up when I search my name, one of them includes this very wonderful photo of me playing rugby in my younger days. Curation (the forgotten ‘C’) Organization is probably one of the most prized talents you can see in all of your teacher friends but yourself. No? well, this is the case for me. I am one of those people who want and wish and strive to be organized, but can’t seem to keep it up. I sort of go through these organizing phases… this more or less looks like a messy desktop littered with screen shots, photos, files named organize me, organize me1, organize me2, need to sort... you get the point? Then one day I get the urge to put them in folders and apply appropriate file names and hope that the organizing stays organized… of course, always leaving one folder for the undecided files like the overflowing junk drawer you all know we have. I do believe that it is so important to keep organized and there are so many options out there to help keep us that way, there really is no excuse. When I do finally get around to it I always feel a stress lifted and immediately think, why didn’t I do...

A little About Digital Literacy We have all heard the term literacy before, as in the ability to be literate in reading or writing, but what about digital literacy ? How can someone become digitally literate?    According to mediasmarts.ca digital literacy is the ability to authenticate information, manage privacy, address cyberbullying, and be safe online. These 5 criteria can be used as a guideline to evaluate your digital literacy skills. We can also think about ourselves as creating a digital citizenship. This is when we are confident and have a positive engagement with digital technology. A digital citizen is a person with the skills and knowledge to effectively use digital technologies to participate in society, communicate with others and create and consume digital content (esaftey.gov.au).
